Rail commuters from Kottayam are opposing the Railways' decision to extend the Kollam-Kottayam MEMU service to Ernakulam. This move is set to disrupt a vital evening train link for hundreds travelling towards Kollam, including employees of Mahatma Gandhi University. The Kerala Gazetted Officers’ Sangh and the Mahatma Gandhi University Employees Union have submitted memorandums seeking the continuation of the existing 5:40 pm Kottayam-Kollam MEMU service. The extension would deprive passengers on the Kottayam-Kollam stretch of their current evening option, impacting students, teachers, and employees.
