West Bengal Increases Distance For New Liquor Shops From Schools, Religious Sites

Hindustan Times · india

The West Bengal government has mandated new distance rules for retail liquor shops. In urban and municipal areas, new shops must be 500 metres away from schools and religious sites, an increase from the previous 300 metres. In rural and non-municipal areas, this distance is now 1 km. Existing liquor shops are not affected by this new policy. The government aims to regulate the sale of alcohol more strictly, particularly near sensitive locations like educational institutions and places of worship.
