IIT Former Director Proposes 5-Year BTech Program

Following a student's suicide at IIT Bombay due to academic stress, former IIT Delhi Director Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao has proposed a '5-year flexible BTech program'. This model aims to reduce student pressure by allowing those who complete credits to graduate early, in 3.5 or 4 years. Others can take up to 5 years without stigma. Rao believes the current 'one-size-fits-all' approach strains students from diverse backgrounds, leading to mental health issues.

आईआईटी बॉम्बे में एक छात्र की आत्महत्या के बाद, पूर्व आईआईटी दिल्ली निदेशक प्रो. वी. रामगोपाल राव ने '5 साल का फ्लेक्सिबल बी.टेक प्रोग्राम' का सुझाव दिया है। इससे छात्रों पर पढ़ाई का दबाव कम होगा। जो छात्र जल्दी क्रेडिट पूरे कर लेंगे, वे 3.5 या 4 साल में डिग्री ले सकेंगे। बाकी लोग बिना किसी झिझक के 5 साल तक पढ़ाई कर सकते हैं। राव का मानना है कि वर्तमान 'वन-साइज़-फिट्स-ऑल' तरीका छात्रों पर भारी पड़ता है।
