The investigation was initiated by the Patna High Court after a petition was filed. The case dates back to 2020 when a liquor-laden SUV was seized, and the sub-inspector was the investigating officer. The probe revealed the seized vehicle had a tampered registration plate and matched the details of a stolen vehicle, yet it was later auctioned.

रोहतास के एक पुलिस सब-इंस्पेक्टर, राजेंद्र राम, को आर्थिक अपराध इकाई (EOU) ने वाहन धोखाधड़ी और शराब तस्करी से जुड़े पांच साल पुराने मामले में गिरफ्तार किया है। पटना हाई कोर्ट ने एक याचिका दायर होने के बाद जांच शुरू की थी। यह मामला 2020 का है जब शराब से लदी एक SUV जब्त की गई थी, और सब-इंस्पेक्टर जांच अधिकारी थे। जांच में पता चला कि जब्त की गई गाड़ी का रजिस्ट्रेशन प्लेट बदला हुआ था और वह चोरी की गाड़ी के विवरण से मेल खाती थी, फिर भी उसे बाद में नीलाम कर दिया गया।
