Marathwada Reservoirs Hit Record Low Water Stocks Plunge to 42.7%

Times of India · environment

Marathwada's water crisis is escalating as reservoirs now hold only 42.7% of usable storage, the lowest in Maharashtra and significantly down from nearly 87% last year. This sharp decline, attributed to a failed monsoon, has raised serious concerns about drinking water availability in the coming months. Small dams are particularly affected, with storage at a mere 15.4%. District administrations are implementing precautionary measures, prioritizing drinking water and conserving all available sources. Authorities are also monitoring illegal water extraction to ensure supply reaches even remote areas.
