China Calls India's Ladakh Place Names 'Invalid' Amid Border Dispute

Hindustan Times · world

China has declared India's recent move to standardize names for 28 locations in Ladakh as "illegal and invalid." Beijing stated it has never recognized the Union Territory of Ladakh, which India established in 2019. This action is India's response to China's similar efforts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian home ministry stated the naming aims for accurate recognition and public awareness. China claims the western section of the China-India border has always belonged to it, asserting that India's naming drive cannot alter this fact.
