Ranchi Police Unit Offers Gun Salutes To Goddess Durga During Puja

At Ranchi's JAP-1 ground, Goddess Durga is worshipped in the form of Kalash instead of idols, a tradition observed for over a century by personnel, many from the Gorkha community. A unique ritual involves offering gun salutes to the deities at various stages of the puja, including during the Phoolpati Shobha Yatra and animal sacrifices. These salutes are intended to invite the deities to join the rituals. The bullets used are blanks, harmless and meant for training. On Navami, personnel also perform Shastra Puja, worshipping their weapons.
