The Maharashtra government has paused orders to close schools with fewer than 20 students, initiating a three-month impact assessment. This decision follows protests by the 'Save Schools, Save Education' forum, which began an indefinite sit-in on October 5. The study will evaluate how closures or mergers affect student access to education, considering factors like travel distance, safety, and local conditions. The forum has temporarily suspended its protest after assurances, but warns of further agitation if promises are not met by December.

महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने 20 से कम छात्र वाले स्कूलों को बंद करने के आदेश पर रोक लगा दी है। सरकार 3 महीने तक इसका असर देखेगी। यह फैसला 'सेव स्कूल्स, सेव एजुकेशन' फोरम के विरोध के बाद आया है। फोरम 5 अक्टूबर से अनिश्चितकालीन धरने पर बैठा था। इस अध्ययन में यह देखा जाएगा कि स्कूलों को बंद करने या मिलाने से छात्रों की पढ़ाई पर क्या असर पड़ता है। इसमें स्कूल आने-जाने की दूरी, सुरक्षा और स्थानीय हालात जैसे मुद्दों पर भी गौर किया जाएगा। आश्वासन मिलने के बाद फोरम ने अपना धरना फिलहाल रोक दिया है। लेकिन अगर दिसंबर तक वादे पूरे नहीं हुए तो वे फिर से आंदोलन करने की चेतावनी दे रहे हैं।
