Thermal Power Plants Must Undergo Annual Fly Ash Audits: CPCB to NGT
The Hindu · india
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that thermal power plants must now undergo annual audits to ensure compliance with fly ash utilisation and disposal norms. This directive follows a petition by the Tamil Nadu Fly Ash Brick and Blocks Manufacturers Association seeking clarity on the CPCB's role. The 2021 Ash Utilisation Notification mandates 100% fly ash utilisation, with a minimum annual target of 80%. Non-compliant plants face environmental compensation of ₹1,000 per tonne of unutilised ash.
