Bengali Actor Koel Mallick Picked by BJP For Rajya Sabha Seat

Popular Bengali actor Koel Mallick has been selected by the Bharatiya Janata Party for a Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal. This comes after her resignation from the Upper House as a Trinamool Congress MP earlier this year. Mallick was initially nominated by the TMC and took oath on April 6, but resigned on July 16, citing the party's setback in state polls. The Election Commission has scheduled the by-election for October 16, coinciding with Durga Puja festivities.

लोकप्रिय बंगाली अभिनेत्री कोएल मल्लिक को भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने पश्चिम बंगाल से राज्यसभा सीट के लिए चुना है। यह उनके इस साल की शुरुआत में तृणमूल कांग्रेस की सांसद के तौर पर उच्च सदन से इस्तीफे के बाद हुआ है। मल्लिक को शुरुआत में TMC ने नामांकित किया था और उन्होंने 6 अप्रैल को शपथ ली थी, लेकिन 16 जुलाई को राज्य चुनावों में पार्टी की हार का हवाला देते हुए इस्तीफा दे दिया। चुनाव आयोग ने उपचुनाव 16 अक्टूबर को निर्धारित किया है, जो दुर्गा पूजा के उत्सवों के साथ पड़ रहा है।
