However, scientists caution this is not a sustainable trend. Recent studies indicate that even with significant emission cuts, Antarctica is projected to lose more ice this century. Furthermore, Antarctic sea ice has hit record lows in recent years, with the four lowest winter maximums occurring within the last four years, signaling ongoing dramatic and complex shifts on the continent.
