Indian Benchmark Yield Hits Mid-2024 High Amid Global Bond Selloff and RBI Policy Ahead
Economic Times Markets · stocks
India's benchmark 10-year bond yield surged to its highest level since April 2024, reaching 7.2133% on Thursday. This rise was driven by a global bond selloff, which pushed US Treasury yields to a 24-year peak, and increasing domestic inflationary pressures. Traders anticipate the Reserve Bank of India will implement its first rate hike in nearly four years at its upcoming policy meeting on October 7. Bond prices were further pressured by increased government debt issuance and central bank operations aimed at absorbing excess liquidity.
