Supreme Court Upholds Bondholder Rights in Yes Bank Case

Hindustan Times - Business · business

The Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Yes Bank's bondholders, striking down a six-year-old decision to cancel their investments worth ₹8,415 crore. The Reserve Bank of India had seized Yes Bank in 2020 and an administrator wrote off additional tier-1 (AT-1) bonds. The apex court found the write-down was done improperly and contrary to regulations. This ruling means Yes Bank may have to resume coupon payments to bondholders, impacting its balance sheet. The court criticised the RBI's oversight during the crisis.
