The Legal Metrology Department has initiated stern action against traders in Vizianagaram district for selling rice at prices higher than the MRP. This crackdown follows concerns about artificial scarcity being created, potentially exacerbated by the El Nino's impact on agriculture. A joint team of legal metrology and vigilance officials conducted raids across Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and Parvatipuram-Manyam districts. Four cases were registered for violating stipulated price norms, and another four for selling underweight rice bags. The department plans to continue these inspections to ensure fair trade practices.
