Birmingham Council Sells School By Mistake; Now Seeks Court Order To Reclaim It

Times of India · india

Birmingham City Council accidentally sold George Dixon Primary School along with a former caretaker's house in 2013 for £395,000 due to a paperwork error. The mistake went unnoticed for 11 years until April 2024, when the school investigated becoming an academy and discovered the council no longer owned the site. The council has initiated High Court proceedings against the buyer, NH Care Ltd, and its lender, Lloyds Bank, to reclaim ownership. The school, with around 324 pupils, has continued to operate normally throughout the period.
