The jury concluded his death was consistent with drowning, despite autopsy findings of bruising. Wells' family, including civil rights attorney Ben Crump, disputes the findings, stating trauma to his body raises further questions. The investigation involved 132 subpoenas and testimony from 43 witnesses.
