Jack Dorsey's Bitchat Removed From Indian App Stores Over Law-and-Order Concerns
Times of India · technology
Jack Dorsey's Bluetooth-based messaging app Bitchat has been removed from Indian app stores following government intervention. Government sources stated the app posed a law-and-order concern because its ability to send messages through multiple Bluetooth "hops" without internet could be used to bypass restrictions. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued the demand for removal, citing Section 69(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. This action follows previous government concerns in July regarding the app's potential misuse during internet restrictions.
