Forensic Audit Reveals External Breach in €3 Mn Capillary Technologies Fraud

A forensic audit by KPMG has concluded that the €3.04 million banking fraud at Capillary Technologies' subsidiary SessionM Czech Republic was likely an external payment-diversion scam. The fraud involved impersonation of a senior executive and an external lawyer, using a lookalike email domain, social engineering, and communications via WhatsApp and personal email. The audit found no evidence of malware or employee involvement but could not rule out deepfake audio or video. Capillary has since strengthened its payment controls and is pursuing recovery efforts.

KPMG की फोरेंसिक ऑडिट रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि कैपिलरी टेक्नोलॉजीज की सहायक कंपनी सेशनएम चेक रिपब्लिक में 30.4 लाख यूरो का बैंकिंग फ्रॉड संभवतः एक बाहरी पेमेंट-डाइवर्जन स्कैम था। इस फ्रॉड में एक सीनियर एग्जीक्यूटिव और एक बाहरी वकील का भेष बदलकर, मिलते-जुलते ईमेल डोमेन का इस्तेमाल करके, सोशल इंजीनियरिंग और व्हाट्सएप व पर्सनल ईमेल के ज़रिए बातचीत की गई। ऑडिट में मैलवेयर या किसी कर्मचारी की संलिप्तता का कोई सबूत नहीं मिला, लेकिन डीपफेक ऑडियो या वीडियो की संभावना को पूरी तरह से नकारा नहीं जा सका। कैपिलरी ने तब से अपने पेमेंट कंट्रोल को मज़बूत किया है और रिकवरी के प्रयास कर रही है।
