Most shops in Punjab's Majha districts, including Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran, remained closed on Thursday in support of a bandh call. The protest was organized to condemn the killing of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhota in Mansa on Tuesday. Activists burnt an effigy of the state government, symbolizing public anger over its failure to curb the drug menace and demanding justice for Jhota. Police maintained a heavy presence to ensure law and order, allowing peaceful protests but prohibiting forced closures.
