India could face an additional $1.8-3.7 billion annually if it replaces 1 million barrels per day of Russian oil with more expensive alternatives. Russia supplied approximately 42% of India's crude imports in August, highlighting the significant challenge of finding replacements. While Russian crude remains cheaper than some alternatives, its sheer volume makes diversification difficult. India is also entering its peak demand season, increasing the need for energy security and potentially limiting drastic sourcing changes.
