X Community Notes Failed to Flag Most US Election Falsehoods: Study

A recent study by NewsGuard revealed that X's Community Notes system, a crowd-sourced fact-checking initiative, failed to flag a significant majority of false claims related to the US midterm elections. Researchers found that only 13 out of dozens of posts containing election falsehoods were tagged by the system. These uncorrected posts, including those promoted by Elon Musk, garnered millions of interactions. While Community Notes can be effective for topics with broad consensus, its efficacy against politically motivated misinformation remains a concern for tech platforms.
