BJP's Hasirani Rath Shatters Records in Nandigram Bypoll

News18 Hindi · india

BJP candidate Hasirani Rath has achieved an unprecedented victory in the Nandigram by-election, securing a margin of over 1.22 lakh votes, a feat not seen since 1967. Despite Mamata Banerjee's party not directly contesting and supporting the Congress candidate, Rath's win signifies a major political shift in West Bengal. She garnered 75.94% of the total votes, with the Congress candidate trailing significantly. This historic win is also attributed to an emotional connection, as Rath is the mother of a recently murdered party worker, resonating with voters' sentiments.
