While the Northern Hemisphere vaccine is scientifically preferred, the Southern Hemisphere version is also effective against current H1N1 strains if the former is unavailable. ICMR confirmed that suitable seasonal flu vaccines, including Northern Hemisphere options, are readily available in India through major pharmacies. The council recommends vaccination, especially for high-risk groups like the elderly, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing conditions or compromised immunity.
