COVID vaccine maker BioNTech will close three German sites in Marburg, Idar-Oberstein, and Tübingen after failing to find buyers. The company cited a difficult market and investment environment for the unsuccessful sale efforts. These closures will impact approximately 1,800 employees as BioNTech restructures its manufacturing operations. The company is now focusing resources on its oncology pipeline, anticipating substantial annual savings.
