The Supreme Court stated that free and fair elections are a fundamental part of India's basic structure, emphasizing that courts cannot remain silent when allegations of nomination obstruction arise. The apex court directed the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission to investigate claims that YSRCP candidates were prevented from filing nominations for local body elections. It also ordered the DGP to ensure adequate security at nomination centers and instructed that candidates be given at least 48 hours to file nominations if the deadline is extended.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा कि स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव भारत के बुनियादी ढांचे का एक अहम हिस्सा हैं, और यह भी कहा कि जब नामांकन में बाधा डालने के आरोप लगते हैं तो अदालतें चुप नहीं रह सकतीं। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आंध्र प्रदेश राज्य चुनाव आयोग को स्थानीय निकाय चुनावों के लिए वाईएसआरसीपी उम्मीदवारों को नामांकन दाखिल करने से रोकने के दावों की जांच करने का निर्देश दिया। इसने डीजीपी को नामांकन केंद्रों पर पर्याप्त सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने का आदेश दिया और निर्देश दिया कि यदि समय सीमा बढ़ाई जाती है तो उम्मीदवारों को नामांकन दाखिल करने के लिए कम से कम 48 घंटे का समय दिया जाए।
