UP to Formulate Compensation Policy for Fire Incidents

The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to create a uniform policy for compensating victims of incidents where no specific legal provision for compensation exists. This directive comes after a devastating fire in a Lucknow building in June 2026, which claimed 15 young lives and left several injured or permanently disabled. The court emphasized the need for clear guidelines on compensation amounts and criteria to prevent discrimination and arbitrariness. The government was also ordered to cover the medical expenses of a disabled victim from the incident.

इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट ने उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार को ऐसी घटनाओं के पीड़ितों के लिए एक समान नीति बनाने का निर्देश दिया है, जहाँ मुआवज़े के लिए कोई विशेष कानूनी प्रावधान नहीं है। यह निर्देश जून 2026 में लखनऊ की एक इमारत में लगी विनाशकारी आग के बाद आया है, जिसमें 15 नौजवानों की जान चली गई थी और कई घायल या स्थायी रूप से विकलांग हो गए थे। अदालत ने मुआवज़े की राशि और मानदंडों पर स्पष्ट दिशानिर्देशों की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया ताकि भेदभाव और मनमानी को रोका जा सके। सरकार को घटना के एक विकलांग पीड़ित के चिकित्सा खर्चों को कवर करने का भी आदेश दिया गया था।
