A leader has requested the Andhra Pradesh government to declare Srikakulam district as a ‘Special Cyclone Zone’ to mitigate the impact of cyclones and floods. The appeal includes developing natural coastal defenses like mangrove forests and protecting sand dunes and wetlands. Permanent flood prevention measures such as desilting canals and restoring drainage systems were also sought. The call comes after recent inundations and concerns over new cyclones, with officials reviewing preparedness in the district.
