Panchkula MC to Introduce 4-Compartment Vehicles for Waste Segregation

Panchkula Municipal Corporation is set to upgrade its waste management system by introducing four-compartment garbage collection vehicles in residential areas. These vehicles will separately collect wet, dry, sanitary, and domestic hazardous waste, aligning with new Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. Currently, waste is manually segregated at a centre, but the focus is shifting to source segregation. This initiative aims to improve processing efficiency and reduce mixed waste accumulation, though its success hinges on household participation and maintaining segregation throughout the chain. Panchkula generates approximately 200 tonnes of waste daily.

पंचकुला नगर निगम आवासीय इलाकों में चार कंपार्टमेंट वाले कचरा कलेक्शन वाहन लाकर अपने कचरा प्रबंधन सिस्टम को बेहतर बनाने जा रहा है। ये वाहन गीला, सूखा, सैनिटरी और घरेलू खतरनाक कचरा अलग-अलग इकट्ठा करेंगे, जो सॉलिड वेस्ट मैनेजमेंट रूल्स, 2026 के अनुसार है। अभी कचरा एक सेंटर पर हाथ से अलग किया जाता है, लेकिन अब सोर्स से ही कचरा अलग करने पर जोर दिया जा रहा है। इस पहल का मकसद प्रोसेसिंग को बेहतर बनाना और मिले-जुले कचरे के ढेर को कम करना है, हालांकि इसकी सफलता लोगों की भागीदारी और पूरी प्रक्रिया में कचरा अलग रखने पर निर्भर करेगी। पंचकुला में रोज़ाना करीब 200 टन कचरा निकलता है।
