Hundreds of Fish Dead in Historic Mumbai Tank; BMC Calls Meeting
Times of India · environment
Hundreds of fish have been found dead in Mumbai's historic Banganga Tank, prompting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to call a meeting with local residents and priests. The civic body has increased cleaning operations, installed an aeration pump, and sent water samples for testing. This issue has occurred previously, with a large removal of dead fish and waste in 2025. The BMC's intervention is limited due to the tank's private ownership and ASI jurisdiction, leading to calls for stronger protective measures and alternative ritual facilities.
