West Bengal State Election Commission Approaches Calcutta HC Over EVM Shortage

The West Bengal State Election Commission has approached the Calcutta High Court due to a severe shortage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for upcoming municipal elections. The commission faces significant difficulties in securing machines because of court orders to preserve EVMs linked to pending legal cases. These machines are currently sealed or secured under court directives, hindering the availability of sufficient units for the elections scheduled for November and December.

पश्चिम बंगाल राज्य चुनाव आयोग आगामी नगर निगम चुनावों के लिए इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वोटिंग मशीनों (ईवीएम) की गंभीर कमी के कारण कलकत्ता हाईकोर्ट पहुंचा है। आयोग को अदालती आदेशों के कारण मशीनें हासिल करने में महत्वपूर्ण कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है, जिसमें लंबित कानूनी मामलों से जुड़ी ईवीएम को संरक्षित करने का आदेश भी शामिल है। ये मशीनें वर्तमान में अदालती निर्देशों के तहत सील या सुरक्षित हैं, जिससे नवंबर और दिसंबर में होने वाले चुनावों के लिए पर्याप्त इकाइयों की उपलब्धता बाधित हो रही है।
