Juan Francisco Solorzano Foppa, a 43-year-old former prosecutor and anticorruption lawyer known for high-profile cases against powerful figures, was shot and killed at a sports centre in Guatemala City on Saturday. The attack also resulted in the death of another man, Gustavo Adolfo Aguilar Gamarro. Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting and seized a firearm and motorcycle. President Bernardo Arevalo condemned the murder, vowing that perpetrators and masterminds would face justice. Foppa had previously led investigations into corruption and tax evasion.
