Wild Elephants Return to Andhra Pradesh Despite Kumki Elephant Operations

Times of India · environment

Wild elephant herds continue to trouble residents and farmers in Andhra Pradesh's Parvathipuram Manyam and Srikakulam districts, despite the deployment of trained Kumki elephants. These herds repeatedly cross the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha border, frustrating forest officials' efforts to keep them away from human settlements and agricultural fields. Two herds, one with eight elephants and another with four, are currently active in Parvathipuram Manyam. Despite initial successes in driving the wild elephants towards Odisha, they have returned to Andhra Pradesh within weeks, dashing hopes for lasting relief.
