Despite economic reforms in the 1990s, Indian companies have not significantly increased their research and development expenditures. Cumulative R&D spending by India Inc. was a mere $7.2 billion in FY26. This figure starkly contrasts with the $61 billion spent by a single company, Alphabet, on R&D in 2025. The low investment in innovation by Indian businesses raises concerns about their long-term competitiveness and ability to drive technological advancement.

के दशक में आर्थिक सुधारों के बावजूद, भारतीय कंपनियों ने रिसर्च और डेवलपमेंट (R&D) पर ज़्यादा खर्च नहीं किया है। वित्तीय वर्ष 2026 में भारत की कंपनियों का कुल R&D खर्च सिर्फ 7.2 अरब डॉलर रहा। वहीं, 2025 में Alphabet जैसी एक कंपनी ने अकेले 61 अरब डॉलर R&D पर खर्च किए। भारतीय कंपनियों का इनोवेशन में यह कम निवेश उनकी लंबी अवधि की प्रतिस्पर्धा और तकनीकी विकास को लेकर चिंताएं बढ़ाता है।
