Labour-intensive sectors' EPFO share falls

Data shows a decline in the share of labour-intensive sectors within India's formal workforce. Over two years, EPFO contributors in 12 key industries like garments and textiles fell by 1.3% to 54.64 lakh. Their overall share of EPFO members dropped from 7.58% to 6.87%, despite the total EPFO workforce growing by nearly 9%. This indicates a shift away from traditional job pathways for workers with less formal education.

भारत में लेबर-इंटेंसिव सेक्टरों का हिस्सा कम हो रहा है। पिछले दो सालों में, गारमेंट्स और टेक्सटाइल जैसे 12 बड़े उद्योगों में EPFO मेंबर्स की संख्या 1.3% घटकर 54.64 लाख हो गई है। कुल EPFO सदस्यों में इनका हिस्सा 7.58% से 6.87% पर आ गया है, जबकि EPFO में कुल सदस्य करीब 9% बढ़े हैं। यह दिखाता है कि कम पढ़े-लिखे लोग अब पारंपरिक नौकरियों से हट रहे हैं।
