Super El Niño Strengthens, Raising Global Climate Concerns

WMO reports that a 'super-duper El Niño' is rapidly intensifying. Sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean are projected to be 3.7 degrees Celsius above normal between October and December. This phenomenon could significantly impact global temperatures and rainfall patterns, potentially leading to extreme weather events. Researchers estimate this could cause approximately 4.51 lakh extra deaths globally between June 2026 and February 2027, with India facing an estimated 15,800 heat-related fatalities.
