ED has intensified its investigation into a Rs 1500 crore foreign betel nut smuggling and black money network. The probe now includes several GST and CGST officials suspected of involvement. The ED is examining the financial links between the smuggling syndicate, which sourced betel nuts from Myanmar and supplied them across India, and the alleged 'goonda tax' or 'Abhishek Tax' collected in West Bengal. Investigations aim to uncover the roles of individuals and the ultimate destination of the laundered funds, with international supply routes also under scrutiny.

ईडी ने १५०० करोड़ रुपये के विदेशी सुपारी की तस्करी और काले धन के नेटवर्क की जांच तेज कर दी है। इस जांच में अब कई GST और CGST अधिकारियों के शामिल होने का संदेह है। ईडी उस तस्करी सिंडिकेट के बीच वित्तीय संबंधों की जांच कर रही है, जो म्यांमार से सुपारी खरीदकर पूरे भारत में सप्लाई करता था, और पश्चिम बंगाल में कथित 'गुंडा टैक्स' या 'अभिषेक टैक्स' की वसूली से जुड़ा है। जांच का उद्देश्य व्यक्तियों की भूमिकाओं और काले धन के अंतिम गंतव्य का पता लगाना है, साथ ही अंतरराष्ट्रीय आपूर्ति मार्गों की भी जांच की जा रही है।
