हज़ारों प्रवासी मजदूर दिवाली से पहले सूरत छोड़ रहे हैं, कईयों ने एम्ब्रॉयडरी फैक्ट्रियों में खराब काम करने की स्थिति बताई है। मजदूरों ने बिना साप्ताहिक छुट्टी के 13 घंटे की शिफ्ट और छुट्टी के किसी भी समय के लिए वेतन कटौती की रिपोर्ट दी है। जहाँ कुछ मजदूर त्योहारों के लिए घर लौट रहे हैं, वहीं अन्य लोग काम के माहौल से असंतुष्ट होकर जा रहे हैं। फैक्ट्री मालिक का कहना है कि ये शर्तें काम पर रखते समय तय की जाती हैं। इस पलायन के कारण सूरत में कुछ एम्ब्रॉयडरी मशीनें बंद हो गई हैं।
