A parliamentary standing committee has urged a review of India's urban area identification criteria, citing a male-centric approach that overlooks women's economic participation. The panel also noted that the Registrar General's office did not communicate its objections to proposed regional relaxations to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
