Punjab Govt Admits 26 Ludhiana Dyeing Units Outside Sewage Grid

Hindustan Times · environment

The Punjab government has informed the National Green Tribunal that 26 dyeing units in Ludhiana's Industrial Area-A are operating outside the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) network. The state cited the infeasibility of connecting them to existing facilities and the failure to acquire land for a new plant. This admission highlights ongoing challenges in regulating industrial wastewater discharge into the Buddha Nullah. The 2019 roadmap required units not connected to CETPs to relocate or achieve zero liquid discharge, but the status of these 26 units' individual treatment systems remains unclear.
