Kerala Doctors Oppose Renaming Mental Health Centres

IPS IMA Kerala have opposed renaming government mental health centres as 'Happiness and Wellness Centres'. They argue this rebranding undermines the scientific nature of psychiatric care and trivializes serious mental illnesses. The IMA proposed renaming them 'Regional Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences' to retain 'psychiatry' as the principal specialty. They stress that psychiatric care involves diagnosing and treating complex disorders, not just counselling.

आईपीएस आईएमए केरल ने सरकारी मानसिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों का नाम बदलकर 'हैप्पीनेस एंड वेलनेस सेंटर्स' रखने का विरोध किया है। उनका कहना है कि इससे मनोरोग देखभाल की वैज्ञानिकता कम होती है और गंभीर मानसिक बीमारियों को हल्के में लिया जाता है। आईएमए ने 'साइकेट्री' को मुख्य विशेषज्ञता बनाए रखने के लिए इनका नाम 'रीजनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ साइकेट्री एंड बिहेवियरल साइंसेज' रखने का सुझाव दिया है।
