TV9 Hindi · health
Following heavy rains and a subsequent heatwave in Karnataka, snake sightings and bites have dramatically increased, with over 200 emergency calls in Bengaluru alone in three days. Statewide, 702 snake bite incidents were reported in the past week, resulting in six deaths. This year, a total of 17,608 people have been bitten, and 205 have succumbed to snake venom. The health department has issued an alert and instructed hospitals to maintain adequate anti-venom stocks. Experts attribute the rise to habitat destruction from rapid urbanization, pushing snakes into human settlements.
