Indian Migrant's Dream Becomes London's Oldest Punjabi Restaurant

The Better India · lifestyle

Gurbachan Singh Maan arrived in Britain from Punjab in 1936 and spent a decade saving money before opening his first restaurant in 1946. Initially located on Braham Street, the 'Punjab India Restaurant' aimed to provide a taste of home for the Indian community in London. Demand grew, leading to a relocation to 80 Neal Street in Covent Garden. Today, the restaurant is run by his fourth-generation family members and is recognised as the UK's oldest North Indian Punjabi establishment.
