The interruptions occurred during the Navratri and Dussehra festivals due to the annual desilting of the Upper Ganga Canal at Haridwar, suspending supply for 20 days. Residents struggled with daily chores and resorted to buying bottled water. Local authorities acknowledged the issues, citing ageing infrastructure and increased festive demand, and are working on emergency measures to restore supply.
