Located at 11,200 feet, the town faced extreme weather, including a 23-day blizzard in 1884 that buried it under 25 feet of snow. Economic downturns in mining and two fires eventually led to its decline. Despite supporting around 450 residents at its peak, only nine historic buildings now remain as a testament to its past.
