The FBI has arrested Wanying 'Heather' Zhang, a Chinese national and California realtor, at Los Angeles International Airport. She is accused of acting as an unregistered agent for a foreign government and allegedly surveilling the U.S.-based son of Taiwan's President Ching-Te Lai. Law enforcement sources revealed that Zhang and an accomplice traveled to Seattle in September 2025, taking pictures of the son, Ting-Yu Lai, his wife, and their child. The FBI believes this surveillance was intended to gather intelligence that could be used by China to gain leverage over Taiwan.
