Africa's Vast Energy Wealth Contrasts With 560 Million Lacking Power
Al Jazeera · world
Africa possesses substantial energy resources, including 125 billion barrels of oil and nearly 18 trillion cubic metres of natural gas, with Libya and Nigeria holding the largest oil reserves. The continent also dominates global production of cobalt and manganese, crucial for electric vehicle batteries. Despite this wealth, approximately 560 million people across Africa still lack access to electricity. Energy ministers and investors are meeting in Cape Town for African Energy Week to discuss investment in oil and gas and efforts to end energy poverty.
