Former CEC O.P. Rawat Slams Special Intensive Revision Process, Citing Voter Disenfranchisement

Former Chief Election Commissioner O.P. Rawat has strongly criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating it's the first time since Independence that so many eligible voters have lost their voting rights. He noted that two Election Commissioners had formally objected to various aspects of the SIR multiple times over ten months. Rawat argued that the dissenting Commissioners should have ensured decisions against their will were annulled in subsequent meetings, as they held the majority.

पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ओ.पी. रावत ने चुनावी रोल्स के स्पेशल इंटेंसिव रिवीजन (SIR) की कड़ी आलोचना की है। उन्होंने कहा कि आजादी के बाद पहली बार इतने सारे योग्य मतदाताओं ने अपने वोटिंग अधिकार खो दिए हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि दो चुनाव आयुक्तों ने दस महीने से अधिक समय तक SIR के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर औपचारिक रूप से कई बार आपत्ति जताई थी। रावत ने तर्क दिया कि असंतुष्ट आयुक्तों को यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहिए था कि उनके खिलाफ लिए गए फैसलों को बाद की बैठकों में रद्द कर दिया जाए, क्योंकि बहुमत उनके पास था।
