Residents in Haridwar have reported that sewage continues to flow into the Ganga river, even after claims by the Namami Gange department that drains have been tapped. The closure of the Upper Ganga Canal for maintenance revealed wastewater entering the river near major pilgrimage sites. A social workers' group protested the pollution, stating dozens of drains still discharge sewage. Residents pointed to specific locations like Nai Sota Ghat and Bhopatwala where wastewater was visible.
