A 50-year-old Sri Lankan woman, Ruchira Ranasingha, has been stranded in the Cook Islands for three years, desperately trying to return home. Her troubles began after financial hardship in Sri Lanka led her to work abroad. After a visa denial in New Zealand, she was advised to leave temporarily, but now faces an inescapable loop of transit visa rejections from both New Zealand and Australia. She is unable to leave the islands without the necessary transit visas, leaving her in a difficult predicament.
