SC objects to Patna HC judgement on rape

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of a Patna High Court judgment that stated removing a woman's salwar and pressing her chest does not amount to an attempt to rape. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant noted "offending portions" in the verdict and issued a notice to the acquitted accused, Himanshu Pathak. The incident occurred in 2008, and the trial court had convicted the accused, but the high court acquitted.
